CLASSES FOR 3 & 4 YEARS
Little Ballerinas is an introduction to classical ballet using creative, imaginative role-playing and fun props. This class may involve pretending to be animals, playing instruments to learn rhythm, learning balancing, skipping and running and techniques using costumes and ribbons, or picking up “diamonds” (shhh…they’re actually just feathers) from the ground to develop their hand-eye coordination. This class is suitable for both boys and girls who are having so much fun that they don’t even realise that they are learning the fundamentals of ballet technique along the way.
Little Movers is a great class for our 3 & 4 year olds too! We use music they know and love while learning beginner dance moves with a jazz basis. We learn all about warming up, stretching, role playing and obstacle courses to foster a love for dance and enhance gross motor skills.
Little Jiggers is an introduction into Irish dancing but we don’t move too quick as there is so much to learn as well as doing an over 2,3! Rhythm, musicality, stretching, balancing, skipping … it’s all part of the fun. Emma (the yellow wiggle) is our inspiration and our music is reflected by some beautiful traditional Irish music.
CLASSES FOR 5 & 6 YEARS
Ballet/Jazz is a class for our new schoolers who are ready to work with instruction and be part of a team. The music for this class is fun and familiar to them and expands on the techniques learned by our younger classes. We do some warming up, stretching, progressions across the room (including skips, kicks and basic turning skills) as well as learning expression and character.
In this class your child will be learning super fun basic tap skills in an imaginative way (maybe even playing with instruments) to help promote rhythm. They will learn steps including toe-heel, heel-toe, stamps and shuffles as well as making as much noise as they can in our fun, safe and educational environment.
Beginner Irish is 45 minutes of full-on fun! Your child will learn the basic over 2,3 Irish movement and then learn four other light shoe dances. You’ll be amazed how much their brains can soak up. Rhythm, foot technique as well as strengthening is all part of this class too! Be prepared to have your Irish dancer over 2,3ing down the supermarket aisles on your next shopping trip.
CLASSES FOR 7 YEARS & OVER
Ballet & Contemporary
Our ballet classes range from Junior through to Senior levels, where our dancers build on their ballet technique using creative roleplay, props and a thriving positive environment. There are opportunities for students in these classes to perform in non-threatening performances. Our Reports at the end of each semester encourage dancers to progress through the program/syllabus and work hard towards moving into the next graded level.
Our Jazz classes range from Junior through to Senior levels and build on the basics of jazz technique to popular and age appropriate music. The turns, kicks, leaps, body isolations, combination and style of moves increases in difficulty as the age and experience of the dancer increases. Our Reports at the end of each semester encourage dancers to progress through the program/syllabus and work hard towards moving into the next graded level.
Irish Dancing – (Beginner – Open Championship)
We’ve known for a long time that kids love nothing more than dancing and once they get the Irish music in their heads, there is no stopping them. Once the students have grasped the basic light shoe dances, they will move into Riverdance style dancing with hard shoes. Once they’ve grasped both the light and heavy shoe dancing, they can start competing in Irish dancing competitions (but only if you want). We can boast the success of our dancers winning Queensland State Championships in both solo and team dances, as well as Top 5 in Australia and a multitude of World Qualifiers. We develop these champions in an environment that is non-threatening, positive and encouraging but also hard-working, dedicated, challenging and aimed at achieving individual dancer’s potential.
Our Tap classes are graded from Junior to Senior levels and students must have some previous experience of Tap in order to be in these classes. The rhythms and combos will continue to become more complicated … and challenging!!! Our Reports at the end of each term will encourage them to progress through the program/syllabus and work hard to move up into the next graded level. We’ve even got Adult Tap – great for fitness and having a good laugh!
